Earlsdon Primary School wins Eco School green flag award

We were delighted to share in the news that the teachers and students at Earlsdon Primary School, Coventry, have been celebrating their Eco School Award Green Flag. This accreditation acknowledges the hard work and motivation to engage in environmental issues across a variety of initiatives the school have implemented. Arden Estate Partnerships donated £500 to support this accreditation to develop the outside space with the installation of a sensory garden, bee houses, insect hotels and bat boxes. To formally open the space, Arden Estate Partnerships Chair, George Marsh MBE TD DL (pictured below) attended the event held on Wednesday 6th July 2022 and was thrilled to see the work and progress made in the school.

The school have added to this space throughout the year with the children donating seeds, plants, windchimes, bird feeders, along with collecting plastic bottle tops to make a large art collage to brighten up the space. Colourful umbrellas designed by the ADHD foundation to represent the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition were donated following fundraising by one of the students at the school. The school have also received a handwritten reply from Sir David Attenborough in recognition of the environmental learning in Year 6.

The large art collage within the sensory space is part of a national campaign ‘Message in a bottle top’, which has been developed to encourage children aged 5 to 11 years to recycle plastic waste. The school are through to the top 10 finalist for their chance to win a £5,000 playground makeover.

Working alongside The National Schools Partnership (NSP), Composite Prime built resources for schools across the UK to inspire key stage one and two pupils to consider the amount of plastic waste being leaked into the environment. Participating schools were encouraged to take part in a competition to collect and repurpose their own bottle tops into beautiful art murals and sculptures; showcasing the creatures they’d love to protect from plastic pollution.
